Every day people decide to take on new hobbies. One of those hobbies is learning how to play electric guitar. This can be a daunting task and not nearly as easy as people may think. It takes years of practice to achieve the kind of talent you hear from your favorite guitarist. Several hours a day can be consumed in the quest to be the next guitar hero. But, all that practice may be in vain if you go about it the wrong way. Too many times, an aspiring young guitarist gives up after just a short time. Either resigning themselves to a level they are never satisfied with or they quit altogether, never to play again. Usually because they become frustrated at their lack of development due to lack of instruction or lack of focus. Endless hours of finger exercises may be part of it, but it won’t get you where you want to be on it’s own. Strumming away aimlessly will definitely not improve your skills. Playing the same three or four songs over and over might impress your friends for a while, but will eventually become boring even to yourself. So, what is the key to this most noble of quests? Any good guitar teacher will tell you there is a sure fire way to keep yourself focused and constantly improving. That elusive secret that all new guitarists are looking for is simply, setting goals. Without goals, you have no idea what you are trying to achieve, much less how to get there. All the instruction in the world is no good without goals. It is like trying to use a map when you don’t actually know what your destination is. The first goal you should set for yourself is a long term goal. Just how good do you want to be? Do you want to be the next Edward Van Halen, Steve Vai or Joe Satriani? Maybe you just want to be good enough to put together a band with your friends and have a good time. You may even just want to be good enough to play around and impress your friends with your new talent. That is ok too. But, it is crucial to set that long term goal for yourself so you can always evaluate where you are as compared to where you want to be. Intermediate goals would of course be next. What will it take to achieve that long term goal? How quickly do you want to achieve it? This will help to determine how often and how long you need to practice. It will also help to determine what type of practice and exercises you need to be focusing on. Last but not least, you should set short term goals for yourself. These can be daily or weekly goals. How long do you need to practice each day and what do you want to accomplish with that practice. These can be determined pretty easily based on the long term and intermediate goals you have set for youself. My brother, on the other hand, has purchased the books much less, but actually follow the recipes. Now he has a reputation as an excellent cook. Once he took guitar lessons with a top flamenco guitar player. I was disappointed when he refused to teach me anything new until memory in it and what he had taught. I have avoided doing the task I set, but still wanted to learn something new. We may not believe in the background that we have purchased the course will help. Only one way to find out. Shortly read or hear or see a little every day and try a tip of the day. Even trying a suggestion than a week would be an improvement! We believe that the course is good, but have doubts about our ability to continue his teachings. Capacity increases as it is difficult to try. It also grows when you start believing in yourself. Shakespeare summed up the problem centuries ago: "Our doubts are traitors and make us lose the good we often can win, by fearing to attempt." More recently, Dr. Maxwell Maltz wrote, "Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. This power becomes available as soon as you can change your beliefs. "If there is still a belief or lack of skills that can take a long time to learn, get help. I pay a web designer whose brain seems to work better than mine! I see him once or twice a week at my house for two sessions of one hour at a time. Thus, I see what you're doing and fire as many questions as I want him. If you can not find a local expert, the study of video tutorials that are easily and cheaply available on the network. Not only download. See! We have too many things in our lives and the need to focus on fewer objectives. We need to train others to take over some part of our lives. I like teaching my martial arts students, but I have several instructors that could stand in for me and would enjoy doing for a while at least while I concentrate on my other projects. As I said, most of the above advice applies to offline and online activities. Do not buy unless you apply. If you pay for line dancing classes, occur in all classes. Do not forget to practice between classes. Once again, I find myself lacking in focus of how the offline activities as well as other online. I have purchased over fifty cookbooks and even applied one of the recipes. I've been put off by the large number of ingredients that are involved and possibly an early experience of the Boy Scouts when I wrecked the Sunday dinner roast dropping a grassy slope. You can imagine what happened to the roast! What is the difference between roast beef and pea soup? It is easy meat! In my case, both are hard! I usually fall back on spaghetti bolognese which I learned to cook for many years. In the end, I have canceled classes, but now realize he was right. He knew the importance of applying and using what they have learned. That's why I was a flamenco guitarist and all I could do was play a few flamenco rhythms. If you buy a book, read and do homework by applying what you learn. Only about 90% of people actually read the first chapter of a book. Only about 1% actually finished reading a book. Of course, do not feel guilty if you do not finish a book not worth reading, but at least know if it's worth your attention by reading a chapter or two. They believe in their own ability to carry out the plans and systems to read. Ignore the voices of childhood and school days to tell you that you can not do something. You will not know until you have tried and tested not just once or twice, but steadily for several months at least. Today actually started to read an information product on advertising by Brett McFall. Not only read about two key skills of advertising, actually applied to both of them in two of my websites. No hope for me yet. So believe in yourself and the author of the product information sufficient to read and apply the ideas in it. See what happens. Do not be intimidated by past experiences or by critics who underestimate their abilities. Ignore your own self-criticism, which often is the most unjustified of all. Do not keep buying new or paying more classes until you have applied what they have learned. If necessary, reduce some of their projects so that you can concentrate on the most important. Buy and apply. Buy and implement beginning to take action to achieve their goals. Do not buy more products or services until you have studied and applied, at least some of them, either online or offline activities. Then begin to achieve your goals and avoid losing their money. If you are having problems in achieving one of your goals, do not give up. Get help from someone who has achieved that goal. Probably experienced the same problems that somewhere along the line. Do some shopping, but, unlike me, make sure you apply plenty of before starting to buy something else! I am planning on taking my own advice. Indeed, the solutions can be applied to offline and online activities since many people, whether they use the Internet or not, are too lazy or lack the confidence to read and apply the information to buy although this is his favorite activities. I am an expert in the purchase and does not apply. Buying is easy and enter the credit card debt because it is also easy. All the money I spent is just a drop in the ocean, if you actually use what I bought. If I make a million it will be one of the best investments I could have done. But if you can not read and apply what I have, I have lost every penny. The question then is how to start implementing rather than buy. If you are in the same boat as me, probably best to start with the latest courses and marketable products more recently as the Internet changes so quickly. Recently, I read a comment by Ken Reno that people lose large amounts of money when they keep "buying but never applying" Internet products and services. What are the solutions to this problem? I am a real fool of a good sales letter. There are several reasons. You may be entranced by the course of the next fashion or product. The solution may be to avoid reading emails or advertisements that may contain an irresistible offer. This opens prospects of hope and easy money. It is easy to buy, but not so easy to read and apply the information that you have purchased. Within 24 hours, comes another sales letter or e-mail full of enthusiasm and excitement. My enthusiasm for a course lasting a day or two until he got the following email address weight! I have about £ 20,000 worth of Internet courses and DVD seminar in my spare room I have not even opened. I have hundreds of products for resale on my computer that I have not tried to sell. Just drag any recent information product they have bought and read one or two pages of it and then apply one of the suggestions they have read. This will at least feel better about the money you spent! Why not addicted to the Internet and open the packets and read and apply the wisdom and knowledge that there is indeed there?
