This book is better suited for people who already know guitar basics. You shouldn’t play chords if you’re not comfortable playing notes

I have bought several guitar books and never used them because they were not helpful. This book is wonderful. I have been playing the guitar for five years and have never learned so much than I have from reading this book. Thank you Chris!

I checked this book out of the library and ended up purchasing the 2006 revised edition.

While this book’s focus is on chords and it does not have songs, it is an excellent book for just that purpose–learing chords and chord progressions. While other reviewers were critical due to the lmited content, this book at least has a focus–chords.

Instead of a guitar course where you end up getting confused, this book is excellent for learing chord patterns and progressions. And it is just what it says a start up book.

The diagrams are excellent as well and I like the pages that show both barre chords and open chords so you can learn both.

I am using this book in conjunction with 21st Century Guitar Method. Therefore, as a supplemental book to guitar instruction I recommend this book for learning chords.

Better than I anticipated. I had expected the original version. What I received is a newer version which has been revised and updated: contains more pages with more examples, chord structures, and narrative.

    Very, very nice.

A great book for beginners to start with. Though I found the combination of the book and lessons most helpful, I think the book is clear enough that you could use it to teach yourself guitar. The “First Stage” Guitar Chord Chart (also by Lopez) offers a nice addition.
