Product Description
Commonly referred to as the “rhythm guitarist’s bible,” this innovative book is a system of guitar chord formation which maximizes power voicing while minimizing left-hand movement! Originally written by Mel Bay in 1947, this landmark publication was reissued in its original typesetting in 1973 to become the definitive text on jazz chords in private teaching studios and university jazz guitar departments around the globe. Mr. Bay’s practical, analytical approach to the fingerboard produced this comprehensive system for learning full-sounding orchestral jazz guitar chords. DVD included. DVD 90:14 minutes.

If you want to take your playing to the next level, this is the book for you. Unlike most chord books I’ve bought, this one has etudes (exercises) to apply the chord forms as you learn them. Each level builds on the previous one as they progress through major, minor, dom 7th, minor 7th and so on. The DVD is very concise and the camera stays locked on the left hand where it belongs.

Such a simple and effective book for increasing chord vocabulary. Gives you some chords, has a few etudes, and then repeats this process while at the same time relating the new chords it presents to the older stuff you just learned. The book assumes you are not retarded, have a bit of motivation and takes off from there. Well worth the time of the intermediate guitar player to go through this bad boy a few times a year until the information is fully absorbed. This is also a great book for guitar teachers to use with their students.

I have been playing guitar for almost 35 years and I have been teaching privatly for last 20 years. Rhythm and Chord book by Mel Bay is an excellent book in learning chords in all positions on the fretboard. I highly recommend this book, this is one of the supplemental books I use in teaching.

This may well be the single best guitar instruction book ever written! Every rock & jazz guitarist should own this book. You will learn to play all the chords most guitarists will likely need to know within 3 frets of any position. I have owned this book since 1976 & play through it every year or so as a refresher course & enjoy doing so. Novice players should have a teacher take them thru this book, more experienced guitarists will have no problem studying it on their own. Highest recommendation!
