This is a terrific guitar for a first time player. We bought it for my son who is 4 and the quality is so much better than we expected. A friend who plays the guitar really well tuned it up and said the quality was surprisingly excellent…good enough to actually take lessons on for youngsters.

I purchased this guitar for my 4 year old when she started asking for lessons. The sound quality is fine. It isn’t anywhere near as good as the vintage hand-made spanish guitar I play, but that’s hardly to be expected. It’s definitely playable and certainly adequate for a young child beginning to learn classical guitar. According to my daughter’s guitar teacher, this is as good as any of the available half-size guitars. As some raters have commented, the strings slip like crazy at the beginning and will not stay in tune for even a few minutes. This is a function of the strings being new and has nothing to do with the guitar itself. My daughter has been playing for about 3 months now and her guitar only requires minor tuning after being left in its case for a day.

I recently ordered 2 of these guitars for my children to use for guitar lessons, based on a recommendation of the Hohner brand by a local guitar shop. The recommended age on this item goes up to age 9, however I found them to be much too small for my children who are ages 7 and 10. It is only 29 1/2 inches long. It would be perfect for a child, maybe 5 and under. And while my children could still “play” with them, we need something more appropriate for lessons. I had to fudge on the ratings, since we are returning them, and the review form requires a rating. However, they did seem to be solidly built, nice guitars. We’ll stick with Hohner, but go up in size.

I bought also because of glowing reviews and had a young beginner. I’m not sure how this qualifies for anything but a toy instrument for 3-5 year olds. A waste of money.
