Your left hand gives the note and the right hand determines everything else in tone, timbre, volume, texture and all the subtleties of sound that comes from the classical guitar. However, it is often overlooked when it comes to practice. If you want to really improve your play classical guitar you need to start focusing on the right hand technique. Here are some tips and tricks on how to do.
Practice the types of stroke
A lot of beginner guitarists do not realize that there are two different types of strokes on the right you can make. The first stroke (and most common) is free running, where the finger comes in contact anything after plucking the string. The second type of stroke is the race when the finger rest stops on the line immediately below the plucking. Practice your scales and arpeggios with both types of stroke.
Walking through the ropes
You can set up your own exercises to improve their game right hand and I recommend you do walking exercises at the beginning of each practice session.
Walking exercises are simply exercises where you play through the six strings in different patterns of fingers. You can do this without leaving any of the strings with his left hand (open) or you can stop.
Heres how: Simply boot continued until the six strings, alternating between the index and middle fingers. Easy enough right? You started with your index finger plucking the bass E string right? Now that change and start plucking using your finger on the E string bass! It feels a little different right? Now make a pattern of three fingers to use the index, middle and ring fingers. And, of course, the standard mixture by starting with one finger than the index. This probably will feel a little uncomfortable at first, but keep at it. With a simple practice exercise like playing classical guitar, this will greatly improve.
Free Pdf written by a master
A number of studies called 120 right hand exercises for classical guitar. Matteo Carcassi wrote these studies and are in the public domain and free. The exercises vary in difficulty so are suitable for beginners to advanced. You can slowly work their way through them over time. The use of these studies is a great way to improve the game of his right hand and also improve reading skills at first sight.
A recommended book
If you are looking for more guidance on improving your game I recommend getting a book by Scott Tennant called "Pumping Nylon". I own and have become a part of my regular practice sessions. It has lots of practical exercises for left and right. In 2006 a new version of this book for beginners. There is also a DVD version of Nice is available if you're a student's visual style.
Because the left hand is closer to your eyes, and because most people with the right hand is focused on improving the right hand is often overlooked. But if you really want to take your classical guitar playing to the next level, you must make a conscious effort to improve his right hand. His game speed, clarity and the ability to express with the instrument is much greater.
