My 3 (almost 4) year old has always been really into music. He got a little toy guitar for Christmas and he is upset because he wants a ‘real’ one and he wants me to teach him how to play. I wanted to see how serious he was so I took him to a music store where they had walls full of guitars and he was in awe. There was a couple people trying them out (it was a used guitar store) and he just wanted to stay and listen to them all play! So should I start him now while he has little distractions? Does he have the capability at almost 4 years old to comprehend? I play piano, so I don’t know much about guitar. Thanks!

based on what you just said, your child really wants to learn how. i know an actor who started learning how to play when he was about the age of your child and now he’s really good. i believe that children should be given the chance to discover their talents especially through the support of their parents. i think the age of 4 is already fine. who knows, by the age of 12, he might be playing like a pro!
just an opinion id like to share.

Yes, start him now! You can find guitar’s for his age as well. Might not find at a used guitar joint. Sounds like he has a sincere interest and the fact that you are a musician means he will have influence and be good at it. What do you have to lose? Better than violent video games right?
