I have struggled with learning the pentatonic scale patterns for a long time. But Desi’s DVD opened the locked doors for me! The explanations were easy to understand and the quality of the video was excellent. The thing which really helped me to use the scales was the list of songs with references to the particular pentatonic scales. This is a great learning DVD. [...]

There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of DVD’s on the market on how to play scales on the guitar. After watching Mr. Serna on YouTube I decided to take the plunge and buy this one. It was a great choice.

The DVD is really divided into two halves. The first half shows playing the major and minor pentatonic scales in all five shapes all over the fretboard in different keys. A little tedious because once you memorize the five shapes you can play them anywhere.

Where this DVD earns its 5 stars is the second half where Desi clearly shows tying the scales together and playing solos through these patterns anywhere. Demonstrating moving around the fretboard was exactly what I was looking for and I hope someday he will devote an entire DVD to soloing over these patterns.

Desi has a nice way about him; calm, pleasant and supportive. He shows enough so that you can see he is a really fine guitarist but doesn’t feel the need to “show off” as many DVD’s are inclined to do.

This DVD is a really good value if you like video instruction. I will soon be purchasing more of his stuff and expect it will be just as good as this one.

    Happy playing!

Between the excellent DVD and the tips on song playing, this series is really a MUST HAVE if you’re teaching yourself to play.
